Tiernan) Popular for its waterfront, school district and direct train line into Manhattan, Port Washington is a cherished enclave. Residents have access to just about everything, say real estate agents, who point to community features like waterside restaurants, marinas, eclectic shops, services, parks, a library and a theater. It's a close-knit community with a high priority on children.

Set on a peninsula with Manhasset Bay to the west and Hempstead Harbor to the east, Port Washington comprises four villages — Sands Point, Port Washington North, Manorhaven and Baxter Estates — plus a portion of Flower Hill. Buyers can find a variety of architectural styles and price ranges — from less than $400,000 to more than $10 million, agents say.
